I started competitive programming in 2023 right after learning the basics of programming and C90. My university didn't have a CP tradition, so I had to learn everything on my own. I guess my background in math and problem-solving helped a lot, but I also spent countless hours reading editorials, watching tutorials, and practicing on platforms like Codeforces and AtCoder.
My main goal is to establish a solid Olympic project at UFPB before I graduate, and hopefully qualify for the ICPC World Finals in the process.
For the teams of my state, the competition took place at Unifacisa University in Campina Grande, PB.
We had teams from UFPB, UFCG, IFPB-JP and Unifacisa itself.
This edition was held online. We had 21 teams (over 60 participants).
Sherterton and Ayres were busy, so I had to compete alone.
I led the scoreboard for most of the contest. Unfortunately, in the final minutes, the runner-up team solved the last problem faster than I did.
This competition was a setback for me. I spent a lot of time solving the easy problems and couldn't figure out how to solve a simple graph problem, which cost my team a medal.
Today, I see that this was a milestone and the frustration gave me a lot of motivation to improve.
This was the first edition of UFPB's internal competition. We had 60 participants.
At this point, I already knew C++ and was performing well in competitions.
I also invited Ayres to join Sherterton and me. We ended up competing together as a team for over a year.
We were the only team to solve all the problems :)
My first time participating in a 24-hour programming competition. Teams from UFPB and IFPB gathered at a LAN house in João Pessoa, PB.
To be honest, I slept for a few hours during the competition haha.
My first ever ICPC Subregional.
The funny part was that we passed a problem in the last 3 minutes.
I remember that TLE was a big issue for us, Big O notation wasn't in our vocabulary yet.
This competition was online and it was more of a marketing for the Brazil First Phase.
By this point, i still had limited programming experience and only knew C99. However, I was able to implement some data structures.
It was my first medal and set a partnership with Sherterton that continued for more competitions.
My first ever participation in a programming marathon. Here i had a few months of programming experience and only knew C99.
The competition was organized by IFPB professors and hosted at IFPB in João Pessoa.
